Pointelle on my mind

Recently, I have been obsessed with pointelle. I say recently but this isn't new, I have always loved that fabric and found it very pretty. When it started to emerge in the knitting world a while ago, I was enamoured but never got around to making anything "I'm just a stockinette girl" I kept on saying to myself. This is true when it comes to big garments but then I realised I could just make a little scarf and so I opened up stitch fiddle and had a play around.

After a little while, and some number crunching I found the best way was to use symetrie to place the motifs on the chart. So I placed all the central motifs and then worked outwards. I'm describing all this as I hope it can help some of you to start designing and testing stuff out.

So I came up with a recipe for a pointelle scarflet and here it is;

Cast on 3 stitches

Start the chart, and at the same time increase on every WRONG side row. This is so not be confused with increases on a row where you're doing the lace work.

For my scarf I did the increases as follows;

p1, M1L, p till one stitch left, M1R

The chart only goes up a certain way but obviously you can make it as long as you want. The only thing to note is that there are 3 rows between each set of pointelles and the repeat always starts 3 stitches in. As for the rest, I beleive you'll get in flow of it.
